About Me Hi my name is Jen. Well ... I have been in the Charleston area for about ten years through the base. I, until recently, never spent any time here though. I traveled alot through my job as a aircraft mechanic/flying crew cheif. Through this, I have seen how large the world actually is and simultaneously how small! Seeing and exsperienceing life with open eyes and hearts, I am now retired. My house and yard is mainly for my kids (quick explain: I dont have kids but I do have dogs, cat, and goats that think they are dogs! LOL). I am divorced(9 years married and he hasn't been around for 10 years). If I eat it is usually out or my version of cooking (the grilled cheese sandwich queen-lol) I love to smile and laugh (though I havent had alot of reason to do so lately) Meeting new people and making new friends are always welcome. I have been to Hell and come back again. The only thing I can say about that is that life is great! What did I leave out?

For those who have sons & those who are happy they don't.

And you also find out interesting things when you have sons, like ...

    1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. Ft house 4 inches deep.

    2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite

    3. A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

    4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tie d to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. Room.

    5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

    6. The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

    7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's already too late.

    8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

    9. A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

    10. Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4- year old Boy.

    11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

    12. Super glue is forever.

    13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

    14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

    15. VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16 Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

    17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

    18. You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.

    19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

    20. The fire department in Austin , TX has a 5-minute response time.

    21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

    22. It will, however, make cats dizzy.

    23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

    24. 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.

    25. 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

    THE BEST COMEBACK LINE EVER!

Wednesday, October 24, 2007, 06:41 PM EST [General]

Marine Corps General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio the other day and you'll love his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children.

Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.

It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald, who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

    You gotta love the Marines!

    Tip: Keep inconveniences in perspective.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007, 06:21 PM EST [General]

This past week I was on a four and a half hour, non-stop flight from Seattle, Washington, to Atlanta, Georgia.

In all my years of traveling, I have learned that each time a plane has the opportunity to stop, there is potential for unexpected
challenges. Flight delays, weather and airline crews can create unanticipated challenges on any trip. Therefore, I always try to fly non-stop between my destinations.

About an hour into this particular flight, the Captain's voice rang over the intercom. He asked if there was a physician or nurse on the plane. If so, he asked them to identify themselves by ringing the flight attendant call button beside their seat

I listened carefully but heard no one ring their bell. I
immediately began to wonder what was happening.

In a few minutes the Captain informed us that there was a medical emergency on board and asked again if there was a physician or a nurse who could help.

When there was no response, we were told that we were going to make an emergency stop in Denver, Colorado. He apologized but told us that there would be a medical emergency team waiting to meet us at the gate and
that we would probably only be delayed by about thirty
    minutes.

Though it was necessary, we knew we would all be
inconvenienced by the extra stop. About half an hour later, we landed at Denver International Airport and the medical crew immediately came on board. However, everything took longer than had previously been expected. An
elderly gentleman, about 85 years old, had suddenly taken ill. It was not clear whether he had experienced a stroke or heart attack.

Even after the gentleman was carried off of the plane, we still sat there for quite a while. The original "short" stop turned into about an hour and a half.
When we finally pushed back from the gate and were in the air, the pilot apologized profusely for the unavoidable delay. He said that since the stop had taken longer than expected, those passengers who needed to make connections in Atlanta would miss their flights but would automatically be booked on the next flight out.

You could almost hear the moans and groans throughout the airplane of everyone who was being inconvenienced by the unexpected stop.

Then the pilot did one of the classiest things I have personally ever seen or heard anyone do. He spoke into the intercom and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I thought you might be interested in one bit of information. The elderly gentleman who was taken off the plane was a Marine in WWII.

I am holding in my hand a copy of the Congressional Medal of Honor that was awarded to him and signed by President Harry Truman in 1945." The pilot went on to say, "I realize that we have all been inconvenienced today. However, in light of the fact that this gentleman was a war hero and was inconvenienced for four years of his life in order that we might experience the freedoms that we enjoy today, I thought you all should know that."

Immediately the airplane was filled with applause. Everyone was cheering and so pleased to know that the gentleman had been cared for in a way that was fitting and appropriate. As we continued to fly, I thought to myself, "Isn't that interesting? We were concerned that we were inconvenienced for a couple of hours and yet, this gentleman's entire life was interrupted and inconvenienced for over four years while he went and fought in a war to protect the freedoms and values that we love and hold dear
    in this country today."
I breathed a prayer for the gentleman and asked God to bless him for all he had done to help us understand what freedom is all about.

"History does not entrust the care of freedom to the weak or
    timid." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

Minorities.....We need to show more sympathy for these people.

    * They travel miles in the heat.
    * They risk their lives crossing a border.
    * They don't get paid enough wages.
    * They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do.
    * They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language.
    * They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day.

I'm not talking about illegal Aliens; I'm talking about our troops!

Doesn't it seem strange that many Democrats and some Republicans are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegal's, but don't support our troops and are now threatening to defund them?

Please pass this on; this is worth the short time it takes to read it.

From a Soldier in the Desert

Wednesday, October 24, 2007, 12:05 AM EST [General]

Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.

    But she was not afraid;
she knew just what to say.
    What to tell her classmates
of why he wasn't there today.

    But still her mother worried,
for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
    eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
    a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
    for everyone to meet.
    Children squirming impatiently,
    anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called
    a student from the class.
    To introduce their daddy,
    as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
    every child turned to stare.
    Each of them was searching,
for a man who wasn't there.

    "Where's her daddy at?"
She heard a boy call out.
    "She probably doesn't have one,"
    another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
    she heard a daddy say,
    "Looks like another deadbeat dad,
too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,
as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,
    slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
    came words incredibly unique.

    "My Daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
    I wanted you to know.
    All about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
    I'm not standing here alone.

"Cause my daddy's always with me,
    even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
he'll forever be in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,
    and lay across her chest.
    Feeling her own heartbeat,
    beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
    her mother stood in tears.
    Proudly watching her daughter,
who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
    doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
    staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
but its message clear and loud.

"I love my Daddy very much,
    he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
    but heaven's just too far.

You see he is a soldier
and died just this past year
When a roadside bomb hit his convoy
    and taught Americans to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away."
And then she closed her eyes,
and saw him there that day.

    And to her mothers amazement,
    she witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.
    Perhaps for merely a second,
they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"
to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose..

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special
person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire
    life to forget them.

To All Before Me and Those That Follow,
Remember Its Not About Where You Are
    But Who You Are
    "Bleed with me today,
and I will count you as brothers for eternity"
    Blessed Be-
    some soldier, in some desert

For those sending personal beliefs on my blog ...

Thursday, October 18, 2007, 09:46 PM EST [General]

Though I respect that everyone has a right to there own opinion, I am a President Bush supporter for he is my Commander and Chief. If you wish to research I suggest that you inquire about the Democratic views Like the 40 day ex-soldier brought forth to purger on their behalf or the 75 Democrats signing a petition to remove the freedom of speech or of war in its self and the number of lives that have been at cost in the Congressional control of war compared to the number of lives at cost to the Bush administrations belief of letting the Combat Generals do what they do best. Again thank you for you opinions but I have my own and what was posted did not have anything in common with personal belief, not to mention was NOT posted to induce political combating. I posted this because these are my bothers and sisters at arms. This is what we share and if completely read, you may understand that it was a tribute to them and most of all the families that LOVE them! A family that I am proud to stand tall with for I am and always will be a member of the US Air Force and Military family!

Hello, fellow Aquarius and Grilled Cheese Sandwich Queen! :-) How interesting that you are or were an aircraft mechanic and flying crew chief! One of my professional pursuits is as a military aviation historian, though many people find that rather odd in a '60s flower child and Witch priestess. Let's just say it's a deja vu thing...
